CLEVELAND – Can your deodorant or shampoo give you cancer? It’s been a hot topic on the internet for years.

Almost all of us use it and the choices are many. But most anti-perspirants contain aluminum.

The deodorant element fights bacteria on the skin to prevent odor. Aluminum in the antiperspirant part makes a plug in the pore to reduce sweating. No sweat, no odor.


“The deodorant antiperspirant only block about 20 to 30 percent of the pores, so you’re still getting sweat out and it’s a temporary blockage so as more sweat is produced that plug is dissolved,” says Cleveland Clinic dermatologist Dr. Melissa Piliang.
