Okay, many of you are probably thinking, how is permanent hair reduction a green way to go? For one, the permanent affects of laser hair reduction have not been studied, and some researchers feel there may be links to cancer or reproductive issues. Laser and electrolysis also both take up energy and unless the machines are being solar powered, that’s hardly a green way to go. Well, here is my opinion on why this greens your beauty. Women that prefer a smooth body appearance can use anywhere from one to two disposable razor refills a week, and about one shaver a year.
Each of those shavers is composed of a certain amount of plastic and metals, which I doubt many of us are going out of our way to clean and recycle, (if they are even recyclable). Many men and women also use the bulk disposable razors and can go through several of those a week, which use even more plastic. If every household throws away four disposable razor heads a month that equals at least 184 tons, which is enough to fill 6 747s! (Thanks to the ecoconsumer waste calculator!). I won’t even go into the costs of shaving cream, plastic units, etc! Call me ridiculous if you will, but I firmly believe that permanent hair reduction will lessen your environmental impact.
Another option is safety razors because they use less plastic and last longer, (this is what my boyfriend uses). Here are some resources. PS. Those are not my legs, just a random image!
Environmentally-preferred Alternative to Disposable Razors
